Handmade Scandinavian Gnome — Kark

$64

Hidden in mist, the Ancient Forest remembers much of what was long ago erased from the memory of the living. They say the trees in that forest whisper to one another on moonless nights in their ancient tongue. Though some claim it is the wise black-winged ravens, who have inhabited the forest since time immemorial, relaying the day's news to their friend and master.

In the deep ravines of the forest a thick mist almost always swirls, drifting gently between the tall trees. And through its boundless veil, somewhere far off, a flash of light will sometimes gleam. Seeing it, the small inhabitants — unsettled by the gloom of these parts — are instantly calmed, for they know that light comes from the stone in the staff of the eternal master of the Ancient Forest — the gnome Kark.

Sage, friend of ravens, wanderer in darkness, guide through the darkest places — that is roughly what you will hear from any forest dweller who knows Kark. He has seen much, travelling through distant forests. An endless store of wise experience, not to be found in books or gained in idleness, has been gathered grain by grain by the observant gnome.

On his dangerous journeys Kark takes only an ancient grimoire, his staff and his old friend — the sharp-eyed black-winged Raven. The gnome's austere staff is decorated with ancient runes spelling the word "hrafn", which in Old Norse means "raven". Kark always wraps himself in a warm woollen cloak, for in his misty forest an eternal chill reigns. On the sharp elegant antlers that crown the gnome's head, cobwebs have gathered: Kark often wanders into unknown places in his explorations. The results he selectively records in a worn old grimoire with a leather binding. And since Kark's investigations are not always safe, to prevent unfortunate consequences for overly curious minds, he always keeps the book clasped shut, the key to its clasps always on his person.
