The Sherlock Gnome misses nothing. This is not a gift — it is a habit, maintained by perpetual attention. He notices the angle of a broken branch, the freshness of a track, the way bark is disturbed when something passed quickly. He catalogues it all automatically, even when he is not looking for anything in particular.
He has a theory about the missing acorn harvest of three seasons ago that he has not yet shared with anyone — because the theory requires one more piece of evidence he has not yet found. He is not bothered by this. Incomplete theories, he says, are simply theories still in progress. And a theory in progress is in better condition than a theory closed prematurely.
