A bold inventor, clever and resolute — so those who know him personally tend to describe the Explorer. Though there are very few of them. The gnome is occupied with things too dangerous to carelessly let just anyone in on his work.
Darkness from other worlds makes itself known in different ways: confusion of thought, a piercing cold of inexplicable terror, emptiness and fear. The Explorer built a special compass that detects such places. With it he finds these anomalies and... eliminates them, shielding living creatures from a threat beyond their power to bear.
Naturally, the right equipment cannot be found in ordinary shops. The Explorer conceived, designed and assembled everything himself: goggles with special lenses that help see invisible creatures and their traces; a lantern that drives away even the darkest shadows; a camera that captures on film what the eye cannot catch; an anomaly-detector compass; and a flying apparatus for his companion hedgehog Fyf.
Speaking of Fyf — the hedgehog is every bit as fearless as his master. Fyf flies reconnaissance missions and helps the Explorer map routes to the dangerous and unknown.
Is the Explorer's work always so secret and grim? Not at all. Another side of his activity is the study and preservation of unique animal and plant species. Right now in his bag is one such specimen — a carnivorous and rather intelligent plant. The suede bag already holds a vial of sealed darkness from the Eternal Forest — the gnome will study it thoroughly in his laboratory at home. And the world will have one fewer unknown danger.
